Simmesport, La. Flood Relief

Between June 18–19, 2026, Tropical Storm Arthur brought extreme rainfall to Simmesport, Louisiana, and surrounding areas of Avoyelles Parish, triggering flash flooding.

Some locations received more than 20 inches of rain in about 12 hours, with parts of the parish inundated by over two feet of floodwater. Water entered numerous homes, forcing families to evacuate, while state and local emergency crews rescued more than a dozen families by boat from the Simmesport area.

Many residents reported severe damage to their homes and belongings, and community leaders said the small town would require significant state and federal assistance to recover

Hands of Hope responded with warm nutritous meals.

Hands of Hope was blessed to be able to serve many residents with meals during June, 22-24th.

We served homestyle hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches, and sausage dogs with grilled onions.

Our meals included French Frys or chips along with soft drinks.

The Simmesport Volunteer Fire Dept. was a huge help making this all possible along with local volunteers who graciously assisted our crew.

Thank You so Much!

The Simmesport Police Dept. turned the street into a one-way street to handle traffic flow for people getting their meals.
